Brief History
In the early part of 1918, in those hectic bygone days, when our country was engaged in WWI, when our Armed Forces were endeavoring to exemplify to the world, the significance of "Liberty", a group of 20 Master Masons conceived the idea of a Masonic Lodge in the North west part of Denver, and to bring forth their idea. The group signed a petition to the Grand Lodge, A.F. and A.M. of Colorado, praying to be empowered to form and hold a Lodge of Master Masons in the city of Denver Colorado. To be named "Liberty Lodge", inspired, no doubt, by patriotism and loyalty to our government and it's ideals.

On March 17, 1918 The "Grapevine" began to show that another group of Master Masons of Denver, the Men of Palestine, were preparing to journey to Ft Collins, Colorado, the home of Grand Master L.D. Crain with their intention of having their petition for dispensation considered before that of Liberty Lodge. The men of Liberty Lodge gathered their forces and set out for Ft Collins. The race was on!
It was nip and tuck all the way, but the extreme length of Bro. Merle Cushing's car, in which the Liberty members were riding, was the the factor in the race that determined the issue --- that Liberty Lodge should receive the number, one hundred and fifty and the Men of Palestine, the number one hundred and fifty one. The men of Liberty Lodge won by a scant wheel-base, so to speak.

The Petition of Liberty Lodge was considered and granted by the Grand Master, desinating Charles Sumner More, Worshipful master, James Leroy McKernon, Senior Warden and Rollin Merle Cushing, Junior Warden. The following night, March 18, 1918, a meeting of Master Masons was called by Worshipful Master More in Lovell Hall, West Fourty Fourth Ave and Lowell Blvd, at 8:30pm.
Bros. More, McKernon and Cushing assumed their stations and the Worshipful Master made the following appointments: Gustus Hepp, Treasurer, Anthony Valentine, Secretary, Chester Gaines, Sr Deacon, Harry Moon, Jr Deacon, Arthur Arnold, Sr Steward, Arthur Gilbert, Jr Steward, Franklin Henderson, Chaplain, Lon Philbrick, Marshall, and Marshall Newton, Tiler.
Thus Liberty Lodge was born.

On May 2, 1921 Liberty Lodge moved from Lovell Hall to the Highlands Masonic Temple where
it resides today.
